Batgirl: A Matter of Family is a DLC story expansion from Batman: Arkham Knight. It was released via the Season Pass on July 14th, 2015 and was released for the general public on July 21st, 2015. The events of the story take place between Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Before her paralysis, Batgirl teams up with Robin to save her father, Commissioner James Gordon, from the clutches of the Joker, who has him kidnapped in an abandoned amusement park. Chronology-wise, this story is followed by the events of Batman: Assault on Arkham.

Incident Report[]

Before the Arkham Asylum incident, the Joker ambushed James Gordon and his colleagues at the GCPD Building, then took them hostage at the Seagate Amusement Park and threatened to execute them if he spotted Batman. Batgirl teams up with Robin to save Gordon from the Joker and Harley Quinn, and the duo make their way to the park post haste.

They make it into the park despite the fact that the gondolas leading to the park were blown up by the Joker. Using the Remote Control Batarang, Batgirl scans the park for hostages and found them being kept at the three main attractions, "The Merry Go Round," "The Ghost Ship," and "The Big Blue Ferris Wheel." She proceeds to rescue them from each attractions, each posing a different challenge.

Throughout the night, Robin detects multiple caches of explosives rigged to blow, and they can only be diffused by Batgirl with her Remote Hacking Device. It is revealed that the Joker has planned this whole operation out of concerning the mental well-being of Batman, going so far as to help cure his "Baby-brain," by removing every other members of the Bat Family, dubbed "the babies."

After Batgirl has rescued all the hostages, Robin tracks down the location of Gordon and leads her to him. They arrive at the big tent with the Joker and his gangs waiting for them. The duo overcomes the adversaries and came out on top, just in time for the GCPD squad to storms in and secures the place. The Joker holds Harley hostage, while making his way to the edge of the park, and parachutes into the water toward Gotham City. Harley is apprehended in the background, while Robin wanted to confess his feeling towards Batgirl, but Gordon interrupted them. The two quickly sneaks away as Gordon is distracted.

  • This DLC unlocks Batgirl for all Challenge Maps.
  • Dual Play is featured for Batgirl & Robin as well as the Joker & Harley Quinn. Hackable objects can be interacted with, such as first luring henchmen to a machine before blowing it up and knocking out the enemies.
  • Harley Quinn sports her trademark black and red ensemble outfit from Batman: The Animated Series.
  • At one point, the Joker refers to Batgirl as "Bat-fake", the same insult he later referred to Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Coincidentally, both characters also effectively replace Batman at those times (although Batgirl's case was more temporary than permanent).
  • The Joker once again used the alias of "Jack White" and manipulates someone.
  • Dr. Penelope Young is referenced in an audio file.
  • The Laughing Fish makes a startling cameo in the game. An animatronic of a Jokerized fish appears and frightens Batgirl as she explores the Ghost Ship.
  • Starro makes a cameo in a secret room between the Ferris Wheel and the Great White. In addition, a billboard features an advertisement for the Starfish Freak, which alludes to Starro's ability to take over people's minds via spores.
  • The name of the character, Edward Burke, who built Seagate Amusement Park, might be a reference to the DC super-villain, Planet Master.
  • Near the Great White, there is a large floating balloon of a clown with a long nose, which alludes to one of the Joker's float balloons from Tim Burton's Batman.
  • Some of the Joker's Henchmen, when preparing to "feed" a GCPD officer to the Kraken, comment about how they could probably revive the Kraken by extracting DNA from "orange glass" (with the GCPD correcting them by stating that it's amber and that it's actually hardened plant sap rather than glass), which alludes to the basic premise of the Jurassic Park franchise.
