Barbara Kean Gordon was the first wife of Gotham City police commissioner James W. Gordon and the mother of Barbara Gordon and James Gordon, Jr.
Incident Reports[]
Barbara Kean and James had gotten married at some point, a marriage which produced two children: Barbara and James Jr. At some point however, Barbara Kean left James to fend for himself and their two children. As a result of the separation, James Jr. gradually fell along a dark path which led him to become a psychopath.[1]
Trivia[]
- The mother of Barbara Gordon was first shown in a picture frame seen in the Batman: Arkham Origins game. She would go unnamed until the release of Batman: Arkham Knight – The Official Novelization which also revealed that she had left James Gordon prior to Arkham Origins and had produced a second child (James Jr.) who, like his comic counterpart, had also gone down a dark path.
- Various comics taking place during and in-between the games Arkham City and Arkham Knight have revealed that James Gordon currently has a wife by the time of the events of Arkham City. Although it was never directly mentioned by name who Jim was married to, there is a direct reference to Sarah Essen in Batman: Arkham City during the time Batman is in Penguin's museum. After having talked to officer Elvis Jones, he states that the code given to him by Gordon is "Sarah" which is an obvious reference to Sarah Essen whom Jim has a deep attachment to. It is unknown if Barbara Kean returned to Gordon after all that happened, as the lack of additional context about Gordon's current wife makes it unclear.
