After joining the Justice League, Batman left the Daily Planet a final message from himself for the world to read in the event of his death. Unlike the Knightfall Protocol, Batman had no secret identity this time, meaning he could give a genuine and heartfelt goodbye. Following the defeat of the first Brainiac, Lois Lane became aware Batman was now considered dead and broadcasted his message.
The Message[]
"When I put on the cowl, I became a symbol. But I never stopped being Bruce Wayne, citizen of Gotham. Remember that we are all handed adversity in our lives. No-one's journey is easy. It's how we handle that - how we help others - that makes us unique. That's what the Batman will always stand for."
Trivia[]
- Unlike the other cloned Justice League members' deaths (though no one knew they were clones), this message was saved after the credits. This was done in memory of and to honor Kevin Conroy, who had passed away two years before the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, with the message ending with the text; "Thank you Kevin", accompanied with the iconic Bat Symbol.
- To further honor Conroy, the accompanying image of Batman shown during the reading of the message, before the text at the end is shown, pays homage to the final shot of Batman: The Animated Series' opening credits; which shows Batman looking over Gotham with a thunderstrike in the background.
- Many fans have noted that Conroy himself said most of the speech in verbatim, when they met him at conventions asked him about what it was like to play the role of Batman.
- Part of Lois' eulogy: "As Batman and as Bruce Wayne, everyone knew him. Everyone knew his voice.", references Conroy being regarded as the character's most iconic voice.
