"The Greatest Hero The World Has Never Known"
—Booster Gold

Booster Gold is a time-traveling superhero from the 25th Century who uses high-tech equipment to fight crime, alongside his robotic side-kick Skeets. His best friend and most regular partner is Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle. Not taken very seriously by his peers because of a careless and somewhat egotistical attitude (as well as Michael's habit of using his status as a costumed vigilante for fame and money), he is frequently underestimated.

History[]

In 25th century, Michael Carter was a football player in college with the nickname "Booster", hoping that he would make it into the big leagues. Michael secretly made bets and purposely threw games, until he was eventually arrested and put in jail for gambling. After he was released from jail, Michael managed to get a job as a security guard at the Metropolis Space Museum, where he saw images of superheroes from centuries past that were considered legends in his time. Deciding to change his life and become a superhero himself to make money and earn fame, Michael stole some artifacts from the museum as well as the security robot Skeets to travel back to the past. It was there that he made his public debut, saving the life of the President of the United States as the new superhero Goldstar. Nervous, Michael misspoke on live television and got stuck with the name Booster Gold instead. Throughout the time, he originally started engineering heroics to make himself look better, until he had a positive change of heart, developing into an more upright hero.

Trivia[]

  • When Booster Gold arrived in the 20th century he needed a code name that reflected how he wanted to be viewed (as well as the material he cobbled together for a costume). He chose the name Goldstar. On one of his first missions, he saves President Ronald Reagan, who in turn wants to honor this new hero. At a major press conference in front of the president, the press, and the entire viewing audience, he's overcome by nerves and accidentally said "Booster", only to try and amend it by saying "Goldstar." The president misheard the muttering and introduced him as Booster Gold.
  • In the comics, Booster Gold is known to suffer from impostor syndrome, due to him often not considering himself worthy of being a hero.
