The crudely nicknamed "Lootinauts" possess a propensity to reclaim items from the battlefield. I am tempted to find them somewhat admirable, rich and elusive as they are.
Separate these gilded units from their hosts and they can be destroyed for their contents - which, given their biomechanical nature, is a messy process. On the other hand, it could be suggested that an alien escaping earth with its bounty is the more repulsive prospect.
