Dr. Victoria Frias, also known as Mrs. Freeze, is the counterpart of Mr. Freeze from the third Elseworld, known as the Freeze World.
History[]
During an environmental conference, Victoria found herself instantly smitten with the eco-radicalist Nora, becoming so tongue-tied that she almost blew the chance to ask her out. However, Nora had taken interest in Victoria as well and gave her phone number. One of their first dates involved kidnapping someone who was in charge of a project threatening the environment.
The two eventually married, with Nora wearing the pants in their family. The two were quite passionate as a couple, combining Victoria's knowledge of cryogenics along with Nora's botany; going so far as to commit corporate sabotage and minor arson against those who harmed the environment. One of their projects was creating eco-friendly coolant packages for food along with plants that could grow in the cold. They clearly had wild times together, over the course of their relationship; Victoria had been banned from several casinos, though only Nora seems to know why.
Over the years, the two were getting ready to go off grid. However, just like her Earth-1 counterpart, Nora developed a degenerative disease and Victoria froze her. Victoria became a supervillain in Gotham, all to fund her research to save her wife. Their grant money had run out, but Victoria, unlike her Earth-1 counterpart, never killed anyone as Nora had strictly forbidden it.
When Brainiac attacked, Victoria activated a doomsday explosive that froze the entire planet, leaving her and Nora the only survivors. Victoria managed to keep her sanity by talking to Nora; even though her wife couldn't respond, Victoria knew she could hear her.
Incident Report[]
Kill the Justice League Incident[]
After refusing countless times to join Amanda Waller's Task Force X, the Amanda Waller of Earth-1 made a deal with Victoria to supply her with the necessary resources to cure Nora of her disease, in exchange for her help in destroying Brainiac and saving the Multiverse.
After Task Force X safely got Nora to the Hall of Justice, Victoria was recruited into the team and, like the others, had a nanite implanted into her neck. She then helped Task Force X in killing the 4th Brainiac and rescuing The Flash, who was later put in stasis due to his disorientation.
Gameplay[]
Mrs. Freeze is the second DLC character in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
- Firearms Proficiency: Pistols, Assault Rifles and Heavy Weapons
- Traversal: Ice Thrusters/Ice Cannon - Using the thrusters in her boots, she can create an ice slide, which she can use to traverse in midair. She can also boost her way upwards, and use this strategically to gain an aerial advantage over enemies. She can also do a loop-de-loop in midair using her ice slide to maneuver in the field. Her traversal attack, powder burn, consists of circling enemies in midair using the thrusters in her boots while using her wrist cannon to rain icy powder upon enemies.
- Melee Weapon: Axe - For her melee weapon she uses ice “axes” which take on the form of axes, warhammers, and scythes.
Codex[]
From the Files of Lex Luthor[]
A formidable scientific mind wholly determined to ensure her survival against all odds, Doctor Victoria Frias reminds me of myself, somewhat. The brilliance, the dedication, the disdain for others… Though she is overly preoccupied with her wife and her musculature. I suppose I would also try to save a partner, were they a mind equal to my own.
From what I’ve gleaned, the Doctors Frias were primarily concerned with the environment and protecting working class types, leading them to creative corporate sabotage. (Personal note: lower carbon footprint to neutral.) This all changed when Nora Frias fell ill with something deemed unidentifiable, let alone curable. And thus, the semi-good doctor fully submerged herself in crime in her search for a cure.
I’m sure it’s a romantic tale for the ages, one full of highs and lows and monologues. But that it continued as Brainiac invaded and destroyed the world around them? Incomprehensible to me. Still, it did result in Doctor Frida’s fearsome vision of physical prowess, able to force her way anywhere her mind alone could not.
Should I find a way to extricate the Friases from Waller’s grasp, I see a future R&D team.
Trivia[]
- Victoria is the second confirmed gender swapped character in the multiverse and the first one to be seen in person; Earth-2 had Lady Boomerang, though mentioned in name only and not seen due to Lex Luthor being the last living person in his earth.
- Her last name, Frias, is not a typo.
- The name of Victoria's alter ego, Mrs. Freeze, is previously used by the DC Rebirth incarnation of Nora Fries in issue 1014 of Detective Comics: Cold Dark World: Awake.
- Nora took Victoria's last name when they married; otherwise, she wouldn't call herself Mrs. Freeze.
- Unlike Mr. Freeze, Victoria still has her hair and wears glasses due to bad eyesight.
- Victoria and Nora's romance is similar to Harley and Ivy's just with the tweak in professions and direction in their goals.
- Victoria indirectly implies part of the reason Nora is enamored with her is due to her impressive physique. She mentions Nora would cheer her on, but not what made her cheer.
- Before being patched, an audio bug would cause Brainiac voice lines for the then unreleased Season Two update to play during any of his boss fights where he would refer to members of the Suicide Squad as "Freeze" instead of the currently selected character, which revealed Mrs. Freeze would be added to the game before it was officially announced by Rocksteady Studios, and before the season had even released properly.
- Though due to the voice line only referring to a "Freeze" it wouldn't be known that Mrs. Freeze would be a female version of Mr. Freeze until her reveal by Rocksteady.
- Sara Cravens, who voiced Mrs. Freeze, had previously voiced Power Girl in Injustice 2, another DC Comics-based game, which also, coincidentally, was developed by Netherrealm Studios, who had developed Batman: Arkham City Lockdown.
