Salvatore Vincent "Sal" Maroni, also known as "The Boss", was the Don of the Maroni Crime Family and the primary mafia rival of Carmine Falcone.

History[]

Before Arkham Origins Incident[]

Salvatore became head of his family after his father Luigi's retirement. He was the owner of their family restaurant located in the Bowery. Maroni had become involved in several indictments at this point.

Arkham Origins Incident[]

Prior to Christmas Eve, Sal was apprehended and tried. Although the case' conclusion is unknown, Maroni was indicted with at least four charges, with other cops on his payroll being arrested as well. Maroni was also suspected to be connected to fellow mobsters Alberto Falcone and DeLuca. The police denied Batman's involvement in the case, although this proved to be false, as the vigilante's closed case 151 was a full investigation on Maroni.

Arkham Shadow Incident[]

Maroni's family restaurant phone line is one of the numbers the players can call. If Irving "Matches" Malone calls while in Blackgate, Maroni will grow agitated upon realizing the call is coming from Blackgate, as they refuse to deliver Pizza to Blackgate anymore, during which he mentions a time he delivered a pizza to the prison and his hand was almost bitten off by Killer Croc. If you call as Batman, it will get a busy signal.

Before Arkham City Incident[]

Maroni and his family had reengaged in gang warfare with the Falcone Family, this would go on to become the bloodiest gang war both families had ever endured. Sal called a family meeting at their restaurant to discuss ways to win the war, however, the restaurant was soon surrounded by Carmine Falcone and his men, who opened fire on the restaurant. The resulting gunfire left Sal as all that remained of the family leadership.

Arkham City Incident[]

Sal and all remaining members of his family were incarcerated in Arkham City. They presumably kept a low profile as the gang war between Joker, Penguin, and Two-Face overtook the prison. Maroni and the surviving members of his family were released after the Arkham City Incident.

After Arkham Knight Incident[]

Maroni had somehow gotten his family business back up and running. However, he would soon be a target of the new vigilante, Red Hood. Maroni fled Gotham to escape the murderous vigilante.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike in the comics, Maroni is not the one responsible for disfiguring Harvey Dent, with both Dr. Jonathan Crane (before he became Scarecrow) and Irving "Matches" Malone (in reality, a disguised Bruce Wayne) instead being responsible, although on accident.
  • In Batman: Arkham Origins, a picture of Maroni can be seen on the case file board in the Batcave.
  • Maroni appears in Batman: Arkham Knight - Genesis, where it is shown he murdered Jason Todd's mother and father, as they owed him money. However, the comic has been confirmed to be non canon. The comic also portrays Maroni as if he was one of Falcone's capos.
  • In Batman: Arkham Shadow, Maroni was voiced by Troy Baker, who also voiced Harvey Dent (The Rat King/Two-Face) and the Joker in the game. Additionally, the game was Maroni's first vocal appearance in the entire Arkham franchise.
