Stryker's Island Penitentiary is an island-based prison facility that houses some of Metropolis' most dangerous villains. Unlike Arkham Asylum and Blackgate Prison, Stryker's Island has a significant metahuman population.
Built as a maximum-security facility in response to the growing level of criminal threats after Superman appeared in Metropolis, the penitentiary houses some of the worst human offenders that Metropolis has to offer.

- As Metropolis is often intended to mirror New York City, so too does Stryker's Island become analogous for the real-world prison facility, Riker's Island. However, the two do exist as separate institutions, as Riker's Island exists within the DC Universe as well.
