Sydney Happersen was a top scientist and assistant of Lex Luthor.

Biography[]

Dr. Sydney Happersen was a scientific assistant to Lex Luthor, who had worked for LexCorp for 20 years. Little is known of his past save for the fact that he had earned a chemistry degree. He had initially joined LexCorp as a low-level employee (though it is unclear which position he had), and slowly worked his way up in LexCorp’s hierarchy. He eventually had gotten a form of plant for his office desk, which was a violation of a rule at LexCorp, which Ivy would later turn into Daphne.

Personality[]

Sydney Happersen was a staunch supporter of Lex Luthor, even going so far as to stay compliant to his Non-Disclosure Agreement. Lex Luthor describes him as being a solidly decent assistant, though he made terrible coffee. He is also described as being insightful and intelligent.

Incident Report[]

Kill the Justice League Incident[]

When the Suicide Squad secretly attempted to desert during the Metropolis Invasion, Happersen asked for extraction assistance, asking whoever was clearing Brainiac’s forces from LexCorp to meet him on the 50th floor. Upon the squad’s arrival, Happersen opened the doors to let them in, expecting superheroes. King Shark grabbed Happersen by the neck and forced him to his knees. Happersen confessed that Luthor had tasked him with researching everything about Brainiac’s activities, only for Captain Boomerang to correct him and make it clear that they were here to have the nano-bombs removed from their necks. At this, Happersen immediately agreed to do so if they let him go. At this, Deadshot agreed to let him go if he agrees to get the nano-bombs out of their necks. King Shark pushed Happersen to the floor. Happersen then proceeded to recover and catch his breath. He then readied a surgical device that would remove the nano-bombs. He was eager to explain how it worked, only for Deadshot to cut him off and demand that he proceed without explanation. As he readied the device, he assured the squad that the procedure would be painless, seconds before being shot in the leg by Amanda Waller, who, along with Layla Carter and a cadre of A.R.G.U.S. Soldiers, storm LexCorp. Amanda Waller grabbed Happersen and attempted to strongarm him into giving her access to Luthor’s files, or else she would shoot his other leg. However, Luthor intervened, contacting Waller remotely, via video signal, informing her that any warrant she had against him would be inconsequential. Before an argument could ensue, he turned his attention to Happersen, and grimly told him he was “dismissed”, before proceeding to purge his entire data cache (though this operation was halted by Hack on Waller’s orders) and wire the nano-bomb inside Happersen’s neck to explode, likely for snitching on Luthor, despite the latter’s begging him not to, only for the latter to hang up. Happersen then struggled with a surprised Waller, before his head exploded, killing him, as his decapitated corpse slumped to the ground. This did nothing to Waller in particular apart from drench her and her uniform in Happersen’s blood, and enraging her.

From the Files of Lex Luthor[]

Sydney Happersen, one of LexCorp’s shining stars! Not that I know much about him, but let’s put together a small profile. He deserves at least that much.

Truly an all-American pulled—up-by-the-bootstraps story, Sydney started in the mail room. Or perhaps as an intern? Whatever lowly position it was, he slowly clawed his way up from within the company hierarchy. Insightful and intelligent, but not terribly creative. Destined to play only a bit part in the realm of scientific advancement and carry the load of a much greater mind.

Happersen is as a solidly decent assistant, but made awful coffee. Curious, really, when you consider the chemistry degree.
