Each Terminaut contains a viral nanotechnology that allows it to quickly assume control of any organic or mechanical host. If not immediately interrupted, this process is irreversible, despite my ongoing research, and best considered a form of "corruption".
I extensively experimented on Terminauts in my isolation - hoping to reprogram them., even turn them on Brainiac's army from within. This proved beyond my limited tools, so my continued studies were more for stress relief. Terminauts are very responsive to pain stimuli and show a strong self-preservation instinct.
Recent evidence indicates the existence of further specialized Terminauts, carrying data caches or even raw material deposits. I would advise extracting such cargo in sterile environments, or at the very least, w ith gloves
